Canal Crossings, Inchicore

Kilwex carried out this work as part of an 8.5kM routing of 110kV cables by the ESB along the Grand Canal to a major Microsoft facility in Grange Castle Biotechnology Campus, South Dublin. 3No. crossings of the canal had to be conducted with on average 20-way HV duct lines. Due to the nature of the cables involved directional drilling was not a an option. Also the crossings could only be completed in a specific window of time made available by Waterways Ireland for maintenance of fish life in the canal (the three crossings were completed over two months). Kilwex constructed the crossings by a dam and flume pipe method, thus catering for canal flow when necessary as the work proceeded. The canal bed was reinstated with HDPE liner and puddle clay upon completion.
