Skerries Ballast Pit

This project, completed in November 2011, involved the construction of a 10m high embankment across the valley formed by the old ballast pit, from the train station to the adjacent carriageway, to give access for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency services. The project involved a strict regime of workmanship and material monitoring and testing for the cut and fill operations. A total of 32,000m3 of material was used to form the embankment. The project also involved the construction of public paths and cycletracks, fencing, traffic lighting and public lighting.
